Fulham - Arsenal Target Smalling!

With our club suffering from something of an injury jinx, the last thing we need, with squad numbers falling, is to face the prospect of an enticing bid for one of our players.

But, vultures will inevitably swoop and the Daily Mirror is running an article today that implies Arsene Wenger has been impressed by the form of our young centre back, Chris Smalling and is preparing a January transfer window bid, somewhere in the region of £7 million.

With Roy Hodgson admitting that we`re struggling, through injury, on the striker front, could Roy be tempted to part with his young defender in order to generate funds to purchase a striker?

As usual your thoughts would be most welcome!

I'd hate to see him go, but if it came down to it, I'd do the deal, with one condition - Smalling is loaned back to us for a couple of months to provide cover. Perfectly reasonable request, I think. Oh, and I might try to pick up Carlos Vela on loan, also.

Wouldn't want to see this happen. It's like admitting we're a small club...letting youngsters go!

Hope it doesn't happen myself, as KB says we should be trying to hold on to our youngsters and build for the future

As far as im concerned Wenger can go stick it up his arsenal!!! The lad is good but i fear he still has a way to go and With Roy and Fulham his development is not under the spotlight. Go to Arsenal and there will be the pressure to perform and mistakes are not forgiven as easily as at Fulham. But it is also down to the Boss big Al and this would be a sweet profit mmmm. As you see I feel strongly about our home grown players....not like the vegetables, like my missues just said ha ha. It would be great if he was with us for a few more years. I miss liam rosenior.

hear hear... let liam be a reminder of what developing a young player can bring... he was coming along nicely until the sanchez mistake swapped him for a player we agreed to cancel a contract with... stick with smalling... he has good year in front of him... and we have no defensive cover otherwise... smalling is better than baird at center half...

In Roy I trust, whatever happens!
