'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Fulham - Money or Tradition?

One thing that has always confused me about Fulham FC, is the rather outlandish owner, Mohammed Al Fayed.

Whilst blatantly possessing a healthy fortune, he's never been considered as a 'big money chairman' with the press and fans alike.

We have a very strict transfer and wage policy, and it is very rare to see Roy delve into the transfer market any more, disregarding his first Summer in charge.

At times, it feels like money could even be tight for us at the Cottage, but, I have confidence that it is quite the contrary.

Some reports state we're a relatively stable club financially, whilst others suggest we are quite precarious and have even got to the extent of claiming we may face a similar fate to that of Portsmouth.

With such an astute businessman and manager combination however, I highly doubt that.

It does beg the question though; Would we benefit from a truly rich owner?

Obviously, Mo is hardly poor, but he does hold some reluctance when it comes to investing money into new players and wages.

Surely we would benefit from a money wielding lunatic similar to Abramovich or Sheik Mansour?

There has always been a debate wriggling around my head arguing the case between loyalty and pure wealth. I think someone like Al Fayed is invaluable as a chairman as he understands the fans and truly loves the club.

But, would money tempt you?

nope, never... they money loving owners will move on when they get bored, and leave the club with the bill... i think al fayed and roy work very sensibly to make the club fiscally sound... it's much rather have a owner who doesn't stick his neck into the football operations, either... let roy make the decisions, please!

Well said Woody. What about someone like Randy Lerner?

Very true Al. I know many a Pompey fan and they're trying to hide their grief. Amusing from the outside though!
