'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Fulham - A Winter Break?

With a rather harsh cold snap hitting us over the past week there has been a lot of discussion and debate around the matter of a 'Winter Break'.

A week or so rest from the harsh reality of the winter climate is apparently what is needed to avoid similar circumstances to that of this weekend.

A similar proposition was put forward in 2006, which, at the time, even had the backing of Sven-Gorran Eriksson.

Then, they were looking for a halt in the season within the month of December, but many managers this time around think January would be a more suitable point in the season to hold one.

The idea, however, in 2006, was categorically rejected by Trevor Brooking, even though they adopt the technique in illustrious footballing countries such as Spain and Italy.

With what can only be described as a football fan's nightmare of a weekend, there may be plenty of support for the idea on this occasion though.

Sam Allardyce for example, has informed us of his backing of the potential January break. However, he cites player fitness rather than weather conditions as his reasoning.

I for one think it would do the Premier League more harm than good. There is no guarantee when weather such as this may turn up again, and for that reason, it voids the idea of a Winter Break completely.

However, what do you guys think?
