'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Fulham - A Backlash!

Whilst there are some who seem to take great delight in the fact our Football Association broke down barriers to appoint a foreign coach, firstly with Sven Goran Eriksson and secondly with Fabio Capello, our very own Roy Hodgson believes it has had an opposite effect.

Speaking to the media, Roy Hodgson has explained how having a foreign coach has affected those coaches who previously were happy to ply their trade abroad, coaches who made a very good living and coaches who are now suffering as its deemed that the value of those very same coaches has slipped due to the fact our national team is coached by a foreigner.

Or as Roy puts it rather more exquisitely,

"I think in the past there was a bigger market in lesser European countries for an English manager because England`s coaching badges were so highly regarded,"

"However, we have devalued the English coaching system by saying that there are no Englishmen capable of coaching the national team, that our coaching set-up is so poor that we must find someone from abroad."

"I am afraid we have devalued it for so many coaches who would have been happy to go and work in Sweden, Norway, Austria, Switzerland, Finland, Africa, Saudi Arabia and so on."

Is Roy correct, have the appointments of Eriksson and Capello had an adverse effect or was the trend established when Premier League clubs sort to plunder foreign managers to drive their own teams forward?

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

I would like to see and english coach but no has had sucess since chairmen alf so if capello can win the world cup all well and good dont want to lose roy from fulham but he is the best english coach around but i expect spurs fans would disagree

i have to agree

yeah i think fulhams fans need to react to these statements with a grain of salt here... if england suddenly wants an english manager to coach the national team, i think roy is particularly the first choice... i think redknapp is a great club coach, but i'm not sure that success would translate to international success, whereas roy has proved he can be successful internationally... so in summartion, HANDS OFF OUR ROY!
