I`m often told that you learn something new every day!
And it appears, well at least for today, to be true.
One of the tabloids has increased my knowledge by bringing to my attention that our recent acquisition from West Bromwich Albion, Jonathan Greening, is a proud owner of a UEFA Champions League winner`s medal.
No! He didn`t buy it off e-Bay or such like, Greening was a member of the Manchester United squad that conjured up that last ditch 2-1 victory over Bayern Munich some ten years ago.
Also, with Roy Hodgson set to make wholesale changes tonight, with probably only David Stockdale and John Pantsil out of the eleven who started against Everton on Sunday starting tonight, Greening is set to feature in our midfield department.
Obviously Greening is keen to talk up our chances of progressing in the competition but I can`t help feeling that if Roy Hodgson sees Premier League survivial as the all important mantra for this season then words such as
"And I don`t see why Fulham couldn`t do a Middlesbrough this season. They were a less fashionable side and they got to the UEFA Cup Final a couple of ears back."
"We`ve got a great set of lads here who could do the same."
Have a hollow ring to them do they not?![]()
