'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Fulham - It Wasn't Good Enough Roy!

I`ve been home for some two and a half hours now and I`m still struggling to work out why we just, basically, lay down and died in front of that lot from down the road.

We never showed any of our normal attacking flair, we looked jaded, we looked off the pace and we looked second best in every department.

In his interview, post match, with Sky Sports Roy Hodgson tried to offer us some crumbs of comfort remarking,

'Well I thought the shape of the team wasn't bad, I thought that we made a good effort to keep them under some sort of control but unfortunately when we went a goal to nil down, what we needed in the second half was better energy levels."

'We needed to threaten them a lot more than we were able to do because unfortunately when you play against them, they're one goal up, they've got the ability to keep the ball."

'They are technically a very, very good team and unless you can really start to cause them problems it is easy for them to relax and to show what good technique they have and what good ball position they have."

'And of course when the second goal comes in it makes life very, very difficult for you.'

'I thought today that we were lacking a little bit in energy, I've seen us livelier on the field - I know it's a hot day as well, that might have some effect upon it but that's the same for both teams of course - but for us in particular we needed to be a lot livelier, a lot more energetic, a lot more fierce in our pressuring than we were able to be.'

Unfortunately, I`m sorry to say, at this moment in time those words have a hollow ring to a very disappointed Fulham fan!

I think Europe is finally having some sort of bad effect. So far the effects have been quite good, but the Perm game only left us with 2 full days preparation, and not long to bring the condition of our players back to a respectable level.

very true very true when all said and done chelsea are a top side and we had an off day it happens

Not having AJ and Davies today really pointed out how thin we are in squad depth. I haven't heard anything about the injury to our captain, but hopefully that won't be too bad. Zoltan Gera does not have the quality needed to start in the prem. He had far too many give aways in the attacking third today. I'm disappointed.

Seeing us today was an result of Europa league game this thursday and our thin team. Unfortunately we don't have a team size like Chelsea, ManU, etc... have, who can play basically two different teams depending of the competion (Cup, premier league, champions league). We need another centre back (hopefully Taylor from Newcastle) and a good striker as AJ is our only profilic striker and as today we saw that we need some serious fire power upfront, also playing Dempsey as a forward is misusing his real talent which is playing wide on the right side and to create possibilities for the forwards. Gera was an absolute disappointment today, lost every ball he touched, but to say that we are also missing Davies, so we are paying the price of the injuries now. A couple of good buys and we should be ok. One more thing if Schwarzer get injured who's playing?

Hate to say i told you so re Europa, you cannot go off to some God forsaken place that no-one has ever heard of let alone want to visit with a squad of your quality and size without some detrimental effect. That said you were playing Chelsea and with respect there was only ever going to be one outcome Europa or not.

That last comment was a bit silly Terge. We gave them a good game last season. No doubt about that...

Would have preferred to see Nevland start up front with Bobby and have Duff on the left and Dempsey on the right, Gera dropping to the bench. But having said that I doubt that would have made much difference in the result. Can't remember the name of the ***** on MOTD2 last night saying that our home form this season is already quite poor because we lost one game to Chelski, what the other two competitive games we have played at home so far that the 3-0 against FK Verta and the 3-1 against Perm.
Oldwolf
here here old wolf... should have started nevland up front... dempsey needs to see more of the ball to be more effective... and gera was not good enough... please come back davies, we need your help...
woodysweats
Well said about MOTD2 too. Twas a laughable thing to say!
KBFulham
Was such a limp display. Firstly, Dempsey and Zamora didnt work as neither have the pace and Clint doesn't have AJ's know how. Quite simply, Nevland should have started. Gera was woeful, he isn't good enough. Murphy wasn't his usual self, far too defensive yet Riise should have come on instead of Baird. Very dissapointing.
