Fulham - We Are So Kind

As I'm sure some of you know, our very own Chris Smalling came on to make his competitive début for Fulham at the end of last season, in the 2-0 defeat to Everton.

The lad is a very bright prospect, brought from Maidstone, by manager Roy Hodgson, a former Maidstone player himself.

It may seem no surprise then that Fulham then pulled out the wallet to fund Maidstone after Smalling made that elusive first appearance. However, our humble club were under no obligation to fund Maidstone and there was certainly no clause in the lad's contract that meant any more money must be paid over.

In the rather good nature of Fulham FC though, we sent 'The Stones' a monetary gesture of good will, and are set to do so again once he has made 10 starts for us.

A rather bizarre piece of news in these 'financial-worrying' times, but, of course, our club puts the community and people first, and cash second.

Maidstone Chairman Paul Hayden-Brown stated,

'This has been a wonderful gesture as they were not obliged in any way to
pass on any money for Chris.'

So, we continue to raise out 'friendly' profile throughout the footballing world. What do you think? Are we perhaps coming pushovers?

Not pushovers no. Maidstone have never asked for any more than the original fee. I think this is a fantastic gesture of good will. Al Fayed is renowned in his local area for making unannounced donations to local causes and this would be typical of the man's benevelance.

I certainly agree. It's good to be kind. Wins you friends. And friends in football is only a good thing!

I totally agree with you KBFulham, it can only get you respect and friends, very strange in football.

It is pretty nice. When you look at the likes of Chelsea and City, with their millions, and yet, they are incredibly stingy. Makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside!

lovely gesture - let's hope they are appreciative!
