Fulham - Unusual for Roy To Moan?

Fulham - Unusual for Roy To Moan?

Do you remember when the period between the finish of one season and the start of another seemed like an eternity?

I used to count the days to go with an almost religious like stance as the start of the new season approached, nowadays there hardly seems like a few weeks between wrapping up one season and starting another.

Now I`m sort of convinced that this is because football, as a global commodity, is now available almost around the clock on digital television. Events that probably took place years ago but were never televised are now common place in the modern world.

Whether it`ll result in player burn out or perhaps the viewing public will simply turn away from the game due to an overload of matches remains to be seen.

But it can`t be easy being a top class manager and watching your squad involved in match after match and tournament after tournament.

It`s something that Roy Hodgson has commented on in the tabloids this morning, remarking,

"Is three weeks enough between a really demanding Premier League season, a demanding Confederations Cup and then kicking off again in Europe and the league? I don`t think so."

Perhaps Roy should take a leaf out of Ferguson`s or Benitez`s handbooks and start withdrawing our players with the most minor of knocks!

International football is good for the lads if you ask me. He should keep as many of them at the highest level possible in my eyes.

Roy is right that the "close season" is too small now -- and with the World Cup next Summer it is going to get even worse. This plays into the hands of the Top 4 clubs -- or the ones with more money, of course. But that is just commercial reality and I'm not sure Roy was moaning. He was just saying it as it is.
