'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Fulham - Amkar Perm - A Few Facts!

The draw for the final qualification round before the Europa League starts properly, was made on Friday.

After cruising through the last round, 6-0 on aggregate, we were drawn to play the Russian side, Amkar Perm.

No we knew absolutely nothing about this outfit so we had a quick delve through the search engines t see what we could gleam.

Unfortunately, it looks as if we`ve drawn a tie that will involve a huge amount of travelling as Amkar Perm are listed as the most easterly team playing competitive football.

Furthermore, we also discovered that their home stadium, wonderfully named the Zvezda Stadium was covered with artificial turf in 2005.

Presumably they are allowed to compete on such turf are they not?

The Stadium itself holds just over 19,000 and their manager is Dimitar Dimitrov and they finished fourth in their league last season

Looks like we`re about to enter, once again, unknown territory!

Zvezda means "Star" in Russian. Amkar have a reputation of being a modest team with overall weak squad, but great teamwork. They were favourites to be relegated every season since they got promoted, but somehow they always turn out better than expected. One fact you're gonna LOVE about this team - it is sponsored by a company producing manure and chemical compounds, and the name of the team is actually short for AMmonia and CARbophos (Malathion in English).

Anything else you want to know, ask here, I'll provide info.

Carbamide bot Carbophos, actually. My chemistry skills are poor. :)

It will be a tough game over in Russia, we just have to stay concentrated and solid.

hmmm does that description sound familiar to anyone else... overall weak squad predicted for relegation but succeeds due to teamwork?
woodysweats
hope we havent met our match! I reckon it could be a hard one but one that will be tight away, hopefully after gaining a big lead at home first.

This is probably one of the worst draws we could have had. Plastic pitch, long travel, unknown quantity. Throw in the fact that Roy will probably rest players with PL games either side...i'd take a 1-0 aggregate win now.
AlexFFC
And on plastic pitch can happen more than usual amount of injuries.
JKW
quite glad the Blackburn game got postponed! If we can get a good home score, I wouldnt be too worried about the away game..hopefully we'll have a few more players byt then aswell
In Pantsil I Trust
Not a fan of the artificial I must say...
KBFulham
we should have enough strength in our squad to deal with this lot plastic pitch or not
