Fulham - Roy Scuppers Hangeland Arsenal Deal?

With the media still linking Brede Hangeland with a multi-million pound move to Arsenal, Roy Hodgson pulled off something of a masterstroke last night and may well have put a spanner in the works.

In fact, Roy could well have ensured that Brede stays with Fulham for at least another season.

By selecting Hangeland for the Europa League tie in Lithuania last night, the tall Norwegian, if Arsenal insist on purchasing him, will not be able to play in any European competition until after January 2010.

Good thinking Roy!

I think you may be wrong on this one mate. Hangeland would only be ineligible for the qualifying rounds of the CL, not the league proper, unless of course, I'm misinterpreting the rules. This may in turn lower his price . Genius you say, eh? Perhaps it is the professor who has the ace up his sleeve. Nevertheleas, there is still no proof that AW made any firm offers for the lad. Arsene knows!

What a selfish old goat, attempting to impede a young player's career. Doesn't matter anyway. IF Wenger wants him, he'll have him, whatever Hodgson schemes.

Last year Lassana Diarra played in the UEFA Cup for Pompey. Then Lasagne was transferred to Real Madrid in January, where he played in the Champions League for them. The cup-tied rules of Europe are a bit screwed up, so it's probably not as straightforward as you put it.

tis a different competition now, but i certainly doubt it would matter all that much... arsene still picked up arshavin even though he was cup tied for champs league...

Well, dear Wenger has to pay at least £15 mil plus Senderos.
