'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Fulham - Target Newcastle Striker!

With July drawing ever closer with the much vaunted return to pre-season training getting closer, the 'Daily Grapevine` is certainly cranking up its output.

Dredging the internet today, I`ve stumbled across a second real beauty of a rumour.

A leading Newcastle site is suggesting that Fulham are on the verge of bidding £8 million for the Nigerian international, Oba Martins.

After having suffered relegation last season Newcastle are keen to reduce their wage bill whilst also raising funds to sign some Championship class players.

But, as the site suggests one major stumbling block may be his wages. It is believed that Martins is on circa £65,000 a week at St James Park, an amount that would exceed everyone at Craven Cottage, we believe.

But, should we give up hope, especially as we have the prospect of European football to entice the Nigerian with.

Stand by your beds - this one could be interesting!

Sign him! £8m is perfectly reasonable for his talent. Weekly wages be damned. It's the cost of competing.

Agree he's young and has got the talent, i'd love to see him and AJ lead the line for Fulham
Oldwolf
bring him in! doesn't he know he was overpaid at newcastle?
woodysweats
give us some natural aggression up front as well!
Al Billy
His height would be a worry what with AJ being small but he'd be fantastic!
AlexFFC
He's a powerful player, but his weekly wage requirements could be a put-off. He isn't worth £65,000 per week, plain and simple. If you are busting a wage structure you do it for someone really special. I think this is a non-starter unless Oba will take a sizeable pay cut. fulham are a hot club -- offering European games -- Oba is looking over the cliff at the Championship...
Sindbad
He will go to Europe and get close to what Newcastle are paying him not the 30k a week you are able to offer.
