Fulham In for City Midfielder?

Sky Sports are reporting Fulham may be interested in acquiring Gelson Fernandes from Manchester City.

The 22-year-old midfielder is reportedly unhappy with his lack of first team opportunities and is seeking an exit.

The Swiss international was brought to Eastlands in the summer of 2007 by Sven-Goran Eriksson and featured regularly during Eriksson`s only season in charge. However, since the arrival of Mark Hughes and the subsequent signings of Vincent Kompany and Nigel De Jong,

Fernandes has found himself very much on the periphery of the team. The recent signing of Gareth Barry has likely signaled an end to the former Swiss U-21 captain`s time at Manchester City.

The player`s agent, Marcel Schmid, told Setanta.com:

"I can really assure you that he is quite unhappy about his situation."

"We believe that City have spent an awful lot of money on players who are very similar to him and that they will play them because they cost a lot of money - not because they are better."

"We hope he will go. We will do everything we can to make sure he is not
staying."

"He wants to be playing not for 10 or 12 minutes every time. He wants to play for 90 minutes because that`s the type of player he is.

"He is the motor of the team - not a 10-minute player."

Reportedly, Bolton, Portsmouth and a number of clubs from the continent are also interested in Fernandes. We shall see.
