What a keeper can do for you!

What a keeper can do for you!

Now this is a quick article but I want you to read it and give me back your comments.

Mark Schwarzer is possibly one of the best keepers in the Premier League.

Fact!

He was just behind that Chelsea keeper, don`t remember his name because he isn`t that good.

Football pundits on television always say that a goalkeeper, a good one can get you at least 10 points a season.

Now looking at our previous season, then compare it to this season, where do you think we would be placed in the table without Mark Schwarzer being our keeper?

Just look at what happened to Middlesbrough, that extra 10 points would have kept them up.

It could have been a different season for both Boro and Fulham.

You only have to compare the keepers for the top10 sides, to those of the bottom 10 to see what a difference it makes. Cech, VDS, Reina, Almunia, Howard, Freidal, Schwarzer, Green, Gomes and Given. All top, top keepers, OK Gomes had a dodgy start but he's come good. Boro wouldn't have been relegated if they hadn't lost Schwarzer. And I think Newcastle would have stayed up if they'd kept given till the end of the season. Although on the flip side I don't think any keeper could save West Broms defence

Our best keeper since VDS. Amazing value and my Player of the season behind Hughes

Schwarzer is player of the season. Aaron Hughes doesn't even make the top five. 'Boro would've gone down with or without Schwarzer. Their problem was scoring goals, not conceding goals. Given saving Newcastle... hard to say.

i'd go out on a limb and say given could have saved newcastle... i feel like he's done it the last couple of seasons, but good for him to get out of that mess... next step in the "get good keepers off bad teams" program is jaaskelainen off of bolton... i still don't understand why he's signed another contract, and why no other club has tried to steal him...
