Fulham - Hodgson Cops for an Award!
Unfortunately it`s not the big one we all hoped Roy might get sneak away with this season, namely the 'Manager of the Year award but it is a great reward for a great guy.
Roy has been awarded the 2008/09 Barclays Spirit Award
Apparently, at the beginning of the season the award was introduced to highlight a manger or a player who best encompasses the spirit of the game and with the 2008-2009 season over, all bar two cup finals, Roy has been deemed a more than worthy winner.
Speaking about being the recipient of the award, Roy remarked,
'It is something to be proud of, for the club as well.'
'You embody a lot of things as a manager of a club. You hope your message is getting across to the players. They are also showing on the field the sort of qualities you expect at Fulham as human beings."
'What we've tried to do is become a good team and win football matches. Along the way we've been recognised as a team that tries to do it in a correct manner.'
And here in the chair as the editor of Vital Fulham I`m sure those thoughts are endorsed by many a supporter across the land who has watched us surprise quite a few people this season, both with our position in the table and our style of play.
Continuing with heaping praise, the Premier League chief executive, Richard Scudamore enthused,
'Roy Hodgson has set an example of how the game should be approached and played - he has been a great ambassador throughout the Barclays Premier League season."
'His achievements this season, coupled with the attitude that he and his players have shown towards match officials, the opposition and the fans, make him a worthy winner of the 2008/09 Barclays Spirit Award.'
Gentleman Roy gets the recognition he fully deserves and he also gets congratulations from us - nice one Roy!
