Fulham - Smalling Makes Premier League Bow!

Amidst the slight tinge of disappointment at losing the last fixture of 2008-2009, one man will be waking up this morning with a broad smile on his face.

With thirteen minutes to go Chris Smalling came on for Aaron Hughes to make his Fulham debut.

The nineteen year old, signed from non-league Maidstone, looked assured and received a glowing tribute from the man he replaced yesterday, Aaron Hughes, this is what Aaron had to say,

"It was good to see Chris get his chance today. He's been really patient, waiting all season for his chance."

"It's good that the manager's thrown him on to get a feel for it at the end of the season. He's been working really hard in training and he's probably one of the most improved players this year who haven't been on the pitch."

"It's definitely well-deserved that he got his 15 minutes today."

"He's big and strong and good at blocking shots. He gets himself in front of the ball and he's brave. "

"I think his improvement's come in his decision-making. The game moves a lot faster at our level and that's become much better as well as his passing and his touch. He's a lot more confident in training."

Before adding with a smile on his face no doubt,

"Hopefully he doesn't do too well too soon or he'll be kicking me out of a spot."

We`re not sure that`ll happen Aaron but at least it`s great to know we have some good quality youngsters coming through.

He's made a large jump, Maidstone to Fulham...

Apart from one slip, he looked very comfortable on the ball. Reminded me of Christanval in the way he touches the ball etc.
