Fulham Linked with Sochaux Striker

SkySports and Goal.com are reporting that Fulham are tracking Sochaux striker Mevlut Erdinc.

The 22-year-old, Turkish international has contributed nine goals and six assists for the Ligue 1 strugglers this term. Sochaux sit one place above the relegation zone (due only to superior goal differential) with four matches remaining.

Erdinc has a 7.1m release clause in his contract. Reportedly, the striker has also drawn the interest of Prem sides Aston Villa and Wigan, and French championship contenders Bordeaux.

Now, my math may be a little shaky, but I think this brings the total of young strikers to which Fulham have been linked over the past 6 months to approximately 5,000 (give or take 100). It`s a good thing we`ve been given permission to expand Craven Cottage to 30,000 seats, as we`ll need the extra capacity after signing all these fellows.

Sarcasm aside, this link looks interesting. Erdinc is an established player and could potentially move directly into the first team; not necessarily as a starter, but at least as a substitute.

His goal record this season isnt that good. Seems too much of a gamble.

I agree that 7.1 is too much to come out of Fulham's pockets. The player would have to cover some of that, I'd say. It's not common, but if a player really wants their release, they sometimes have to finance it. But, if Sochaux are relegated, I suspect the amount will drop considerably. Probably much a-do about nothing, anyway.

are we really going to add a 7.1M substitute striker to our already expensive front line?

Yeh. It seems a ridiculous amount for such a player. I think he's pretty decent, but not at that price. Although, the player is valuated around 4 million; far and away the highest valued player on Sochaux. The player would probably have to cover the other 3 for his release.
