I`ve always struggled to get my head around these international fixtures whereby the two combatants compete in a neutral country that is unless; off course it is an international tournament.
But I suppose, if the majority are resident in that country then, I guess, it does save on travel.
One player who will benefit is Dickson Etuhu.
The Nigerian, who has revelled in the midfield since the departure of Jimmy Bullard, looks set to play for Nigeria in a fixture against the Republic of Ireland, at, of all places, Craven Cottage.
Speaking about the fixture, Dickson has remarked on the official site,
'I think the game against the Republic of Ireland will be very important for us in our preparations for the qualifiers and we need to win in all the games we play in.'
"This match will be a great game to play in to test ourselves and be fully prepared for the match against Kenya."
"The Republic of Ireland are a very good team and I have a few friends there. I`m looking forward to it myself and obviously with the game being at Craven Cottage it`s going to be really good."
"A lot of people have said in the past that African teams will win the World Cup but we haven`t progressed far in the last two World Cup tournaments. It won`t be easy as Europe has some of the hardest leagues in the world but with a lot of African players playing in the Premier League and all over Europe, we are getting better and better and who knows maybe this can be our time."
I might even pop along and see this one myself, as long as the ticket prices are reasonable (it`s been an expensive season!)
