Despite what we all think about qualifying for the Europa League you have to admit European football presents a fantastic opportunity.
Last night, sat in my local supping a few pints of ale, I couldn`t help but be enthralled by the spectacle that was Barcelona against that lot down the road. It was football at another level, football that must mean so much more compared to the relative humdrumness of the Premier League.
I also have to gingerly admit that, at one stage, my loyalties were with that lot from down the road with my national pride kicking in once the Spaniards decided they`d go to ground at the slightest opportunity. But I`ll also admit I had another agenda, a secret agenda.
You see with our local derby coming up a draw was probably the best result we could have hoped for. Chelsea no longer have a realistic chance of winning the Premier League (only a mathematical) and with Barcelona in town next week will not be giving too much thought to our arrival at Stamford Bridge.
There are already doubts about Andrew Johnson and Bobby Zamora being fit for the fixture on Saturday and now it looks as if the desire Chelsea have to win the Champions League may well see them rest key players. Looking through the papers this morning there is a quote from their manager, Hiddink, which implies resting players is in his thinking when he says about the game,
"We have to rest and see who is available, so we`ll think about it in the next few days."
Therefore, my question to my fellow Vital Fulham members is,
If you could pick FOUR players that you`d like to see Chelsea rest for our local derby, who would they be?
Bearing in mind a win would see us go some way to realising our own European dream.
