Fulham - Double For Barnes In Reserve Win

Giles Barnes scored twice for the reserves as Fulham beat Stoke 3-1 at Motspur Park on Tuesday.

A team, made up of first team players (albeit mostly squad players) and promising academy players, recorded an impressive 6th win in 7 matches and the double from the on-loan Derby man Barnes will aid his claims for a place in the first team as the season draws to a close.

Erik Nevland didn't do his chances of more first team football before the season is out any harm either as he also scored for Billy McKinlay's side.

The reserve season finishes next Monday when Fulham, unbeaten in 10 matches, travel to Aston Villa.

Do you think that Giles Barnes' goals, and Erik Nevland's, could see them force their way into Roy Hodgson's plans for the next first team match?

barnes has been banging in the goals in the reserve matches, so i would certainly like to see him in the first squad, but it's tough to find a spot for him, as danny has been playing very well, and etuhu scored that beautiful goal on sunday...

We'll be making our play to solidify our table position the next two matches against 'Boro and Stoke, and away to Chelsea is no time to get adventurous with the youngsters. I think you'll see the regular starting eleven. Assuming all goes well, I think the reserves will see more action the last three matches, where we have two tough home matches and an away clash with slumping Newcastle. I would like to see Barnes get a few games before the end of the season.

I sure hope Barnes gets a few games before the end of this term!

Woody, what I think would work is a more attacking match, like Stoke, where perhaps a more defensive minded central midfielder is not needed. Just stick Barnes over Etuhu and see how it goes! :D

Perhaps. But it'll be quite a tough game. I'm not sure Roy would risk it. :S

I would like to see Barnes given a few minutes. Surely he could come on for 15 minutes in a few matches in place of Dempsey, Davies or Murphy?

Yeah, he probably will Alex. But, I really want to see him start; see if he can last 90 minutes or so.

I'd like Barnes to at least play once so we could see what he has to offer!
