Fulham - Dempsey on Change!

Fulham - Dempsey on Change!

It`s great how things can turn around in such a short space of time.

Back in August when Zoltan Gera had been signed, it looked as if Clint Dempsey might be the odd man out. In fact, sat on the substitutes` bench it looked as if that was the case.

But the American is made of sterner stuff and a string of stirring performances has cemented his claims to be a permanent member of the starting eleven.

Dempsey attributes this to being more of a complete footballer and has spoken passionately about his game, the league he plays in and the changes he has had to make, remarking,

'I've morphed into more of a complete footballer and someone who can get forward and back and is not a liability defensively."

"That was something that some thought was a weakness in my game but this year I've shown it's one of my strengths. I feel I'm more of a complete player, my passing and the tempo of my play has got better by taking less touches and being smarter."

'It's a great culture and awesome to be in a country where everybody is so passionate about a sport that you`re so passionate about. To be here and be around that atmosphere, playing in The Premier League, is a dream come true and I'm really enjoying it. I'm just trying to be the best player I can be."

'I just get my head down, work as hard as I can and keep my ears open to what I'm being asked to do as well as staying true to myself. It's been tough but it's made me a better, more complete player."

Is Clinton Dempsey one of the un-sung heroes of our squad?

As an American, I'm terribly proud of Dempsey. He's definitely become a better player. He's not your classic winger, but I think he's done well in that role. In fact, I think he's much more effective on the wing than he was as a withdrawn forward. Davies, Dempsey and Murphy have all done well. As for player of the season, it's a two man race - Hangeland and Schwarzer. What a difference they've made.
