Fulham - We Don`t Set Targets?

The win over a poor Portsmouth side last weekend has opened up the old debate again.

Just where do we all expect Fulham to finish this season?

Will we be flirting with relegation in May, will we be challenging for a UEFA Cup place or will we be sitting comfortably in mid-table?

There is, we suspect, an argument for all three suggestions.

However, Roy Hodgson refuses to get drawn into such a debate and in an interview given to Setanta, has spoken about his refusal to set targets; it makes for interesting reading,

'We didn't set ourselves targets; people always want you to set targets.'

'I think it's very dangerous, if you set them too low you regret it as you could have pushed people harder. If you set it too high, you run the risk of demotivating players when they realise a target is unachievable,."

'We want to survive in the league and I'm hoping we're going to do it more comfortably. "

'If it means doing it more comfortably than last year it might also mean doing quite well and finishing reasonably high in the table."

'With a small squad, we've overachieved so far. We have 14 points more than this time last year which is very comforting. We're still nowhere near the target we're going to need to stay in the league.'

Now that has to be our main priority surely! Just making sure we stay in the pressure cooker that is the Premier League!

Agreed. But a nice push up the table would be even more comforting. Maybe 8th, and a possible inter-toto cup place.....we won it once!!

I'd be pleased with a mid-table finish and our finances intact. Also, we're 1st in the EPL Fair Play rankings, so that might just gain us a spot in UEFA Cup.

were we not cruising that league last year until money bags Man City elbowed us to one side!
Al Billy
Correct. They were 6th. We were 7th - LESS than a point behind. All the teams in front of us had qualified for Europe in some other manner. This season the closest team to us that will likely not qualify through some other means is Spurs. If we stay ahead of them, it's a real possibility.

i'm planning on hopping the pond at the end of may and taking in the game v. everton at the cottage. if i could watch our last game of the season without looking at other results or worrying that we might not stay up, i'd be very happy. that's all i ask.

We don't set targets .. but 'We want to survive in the league and I'm hoping we're going to do it more comfortably. " Well mis that not a target ? or how about .. We're still nowhere near the target we're going to need to stay in the league.'.. the man is a walking taling contradiction.. Still you beat us 3-1 so who am I to judge.. Good bloke is Roy ..and I'm sure you will be ok.. there are teams this season that are a lot worse than you were last year.. You should do top 12 easily I reckon.. just win those games on hand..

with the table being so tight,i think it mite b a touch difficult to set to many targets, roy has bin sayin all season that priority is staying up without lookin over our shoulder to much,i think he will achieve that 4 us,,and yes chix that is a target,,but isnt that everyones?
whiteaussie
chix - don't nit-pick, it doesn't suit you!
Al Billy
staying up is our most realistic target

i think until we can adress the vodoo of not winning away we will be struggling near the bottom although i dont think we will go down .
