Fulham - Hearts Centre Back London Bound?

With the big-guns apparently sniffing around Brede Hangeland, Roy Hodgson appears to be looking to strengthen our central defensive cover.

We reported a while back that the Hearts centre back, Christophe Barra, was a likely target.

Well, with the transfer window now firmly open, it`s being implied that Fulham`s interest has intensified with Hodgson, apparently, having had Barra watched during the recent Edinburgh derby.

The media are suggesting that a £2.5 million fee could be enough to persuade the cash-strapped Edinburgh club to part with the central defender.

Once again, we`ll do our best to keep you abreast of things.

Should be an exciting player if we get him.

I really don't like the fact we are being connected with centre backs. I know we could do with some cover but Barra's a good player and that can only mean that Hodgson thinks Brede is on his way out. Not good!

Couple of points if I may from a Hearts perspective. 1) Berra will not move to a club where he is just going to be 'cover'. 2) £2.5M is nowhere near enough for a young top-flight club captain (and full international) on a 5 year contract, so I don't know where the papers got that figure from. Not trying to rain on anyone's parade, but despite media reports we are not "cash strapped" nor are we looking to sell all our prized assets for less than market value. I'm sure Christophe will move on either in this window or next, but it will be for more than £2.5M and it will be to a club where he can continue his development in the first team.

i heard the Hibs fans taunted you with - "Are you Woolworths in disguise"

Would they be the same Hibs fans who booed through the minute's silence for our late former captain George Miller? Nah, that's ungallant of me... sorry guys, but I just don't see it happening for that kind of money and with that kind of sell to the player. I've been watching him for too long & know better. I hear Rangers are selling though - their chairman is *really* skint! On the other hand, if you're looking for a decent centre half then you're better off elsewhere...

WE NEED AN ITALIAN DEFENDER

He's a good player from what I've heard. And I think it's not that he will act as "cover" but more as competition. Hughes, Hangeland and Berra would also help give us a bit of diversity. Means we could possibly play and 3-5-2 with Konchesky filling in on the left, Davies/Panstil out on the right and Dempsey, Murphy and Bullard through the centre meaning we can easily drop Pantsil and Konchesky back to right and left back, covering ourselves defensively or push them forward in the search for goals

And, by the way, it BErra, not BArra

does this mean hangeland is going i really hope not

Hangeland wont move have faith!! I would rather see a new left back to challenge Konchesky although i have to say hes been solid enough this season with only the occasional dosy pass!
