'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Fulham - UEFA Cup or Relegation?

It`s been a strange first half of the season.

The way results have panned out I`d hazard a guess that, apart from the top five of Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United, Aston Villa and Arsenal, plus the bottom one of West Bromwich Albion, every other side must consider they have a chance of either being sucked into the relegation battle (if things go horribly wrong) or battling for a UEFA Cup place (if things go swimmingly well).

With our club enjoying an unbeaten run of six games (what do you mean four of those were draws?) we`ve every reason to be optimistic that this season we can enjoy a much higher finish than last season.

This feeling appears to have spread downwards to the players with Andrew Johnson remarking,

'On the back of those results, realistically, I think we can be looking at a top-10 finish, and possibly upwards of 10th spot.

'But it's such a tight league this year, and a few results can take you either way. We could go on a run of two defeats and, depending on other results, could well find ourselves in the relegation zone. Then again, two wins in succession could put us right up there."

'I've never known a league like this, where anyone can beat anyone. Usually by this time of the season gaps start to develop where there are maybe six to nine points separating the top seven or eight teams, but it's not like that this season and that's very strange.'

Like we suggested, there could be some unusual teams in the relegation and UEFA melting pots come March / April with a hell of a lot to play for!

Personally think neither, you'll be safe, but don't think you are going to trouble the top six, as much as I'd like to see a different club in the mix.

Mr Fear - thanks for the vote of not being in relegation crisis confidence!

I completly agree - anyone could beat anyone - however I think you SHOULD be safe. Having said that, I can't think of anyonewould say will go down for sure...

As far as europe is concerned... I doubt it. Aston villa Arsenal!) will/should easily wrap up 5th place, Totenham easily have the quality in there team to challenge the top 4, so (taking into account there poor start) think they should take 6th. That leaves 7th for everton, pompey, Hull, wigan, middlesbrough, yourselves, Man City - even Bolton, newcastle and Blackburn could be looking at Europe as a possibility with the squads they have... that's 10 teams all competeing for one spot!!!!

better pray for the Fair Play place then!
