Fulham humbled by Beattie brilliance

James Beattie provided the ammunition as Fulham succumbed to their twelfth away defeat this season.

The away day blues continued for Fulham as they maintained the worst away record in the Premiership and the football league for any club.

James Beattie's brilliant 20-yard chip courtesy of a Cahill layback in the 36th minute ensured that Everton would go on to win the game before half-time after he had earlier stroked home a penalty (14).

Coleman must have asked his players to attack in the second half as they went in search of a way back into the game. But things got worse for Fulham.

James McFadden picking the ball up 30-yards out sent a brilliant strike into the roof of the net that Warner was helpless to stop.

It was not until the last ten minuets of the game that Fulham started to turn the corner and play their own game the way every Whites fan loves to see them play.

The inventiveness of the midfield eventually led to the referee granting Fulham a penalty that was duly converted by substitute Collins John in the 86 minute.

It led to a late Fulham rally and Luis Boa Morte hit a point blank shot straight at keeper Richard Wright. Everton were not to be denied however and they were applauded off the pitch as Fulham walked home again with nothing.

What we really need is a rock at the back, someone who can hold the defence together, someone who can command the backline and ensure the link between defence and midfield

It would help so much if Diop didn't have to go to African nations. he does a lot of stuff for the boys that some don't even notice. he has to be one of the most under-rated players int eh premiership
