'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Would You Go To Cardiff?

Cue hate mail galore from the valleys!

On transfer deadline day it appeared that our Russian international, Alexei Smertin, would be joining Eddie Johnson playing for Cardiff City.

But, the deal never happened and in the end Smertin`s contract was cancelled by mutual consent allowing him to find another club as an unattached player.

Smertin has now explained why he didn`t join Cardiff and the explanation is really quite simple,

'Frankly speaking I found out about the Cardiff City option only on September 1 from my friends.'

'The local newspapers also wrote that I could be sent on loan to the Welsh side. Even if I'd had time to look at the details of the move, and I was only given these at the last minute, I would still have refused.'

'The idea of spending the season in the Championship doesn't interest me at all.'

So there you have it, he didn`t fancy playing kick and rush!

putney - you'd better hope we don't draw a Welsh team in the cup, they'll have your guts for garters!

lol! I'll take the risk, only doing my journo job to attract viewers :-)

He made a wise choice, along side such unfriendly places as Bu****y and S**ke, C*****f is probably the worst.

so is going back to russia abetter choice????
dan the man
cardiff play a far better style of football than fulham, so he probably felt he couldn't handle the step up.

lol showstopper, nice to see you've got a sense of humour :) I haven't exactly seen a cue of premiership clubs looking for Smertin since he was released. What's his next move I wonder? Quality player, could have been` decent backup for us this year.
