With no Premier League games for us for the next fortnight, thanks to Manchester United disappearing off to Monaco and World Cup qualifiers, we're going to be deprived of our usual fix.
Therefore, to keep things rolling over, we may have to do some recollection work, starting with another look at a few quotes attributed to Roy Hodgson after the enthralling 3-2 Carling Cup victory over Leicester City.
After putting in a sparkling display the previous Sunday, it was kind of ironic that Jimmy Bullard and Danny Murphy would step to the fore again. But, whilst both scored blistering goals, from long range, Hodgson had mixed words about them.
First he bemoaned the fact that Jimmy conceded possession too easily on Wednesday night but got us back into the game remarking,
'In the second half Jimmy was guilty of giving the ball away. But it was the quality of his strike that brought us back into the game.'
And then offering some fulsome praise to Danny commenting,
'When push comes to shove Danny is a fellow you can rely upon. He never stops working even when things are not going right for him.'
Some interesting words which too a casual observer would indicate that if Dickson Etuhu arrives from Sunderland, it could, initially be Jimmy that suffers.
Perhaps the most poignant comments though are reserved for our performance on the night with Roy declaring,
'We couldn't seem to find our rhythm, we gave the ball away, we didn't move it quick enough, and we defended too deep.'
Now if we were to commit the same sin against a top Premier League side I have this feeling we'd all be weeping in our beer.
