'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Fulham - Hodgson on that Hull Defeat.

The numbness resulting from the defeat yesterday refuses to go away.

The awful taste left in your mouth, a taste caused by downing too many beers, refuses to go away and the pain-killers do nothing to ease the thumping headache, a headache you`re in denial about as being self-inflicted.

Things will get better, results will improve and I have every faith that Arsenal will be in for a surprise next Saturday. Until then we`ll linger over the words of Roy Hodgson who, magnanimous as ever in defeat, had this to say in his post match interview,

'We were prepared for the game, but we just didn't play as well in the second half as we did in pre-season.'

'In the first half I think the team were coming together well and we played some good football."

'It became a fight at both ends in the second half, and in those circumstances it was always possible a defensive error would settle the match, which is what happened."

'It's tough to come away without a result after the first half performance, but Hull were very motivated in the second half, they chased things down, and we made some mistakes as a result.'

Bring on the Arsenal.

I watched it on MotD, thought we looked good and solid MOST of the time. Defence looked a little shaky and Konchs' mistake was just one of those things. Hopefully we aren't going to repeat last seasons "leading until late then falling apart". Lets see if AJ brings some inspiration. Good luck the lads, lets get behind them.

To be honest we really didn't ever look like we were in it after we scored the first goal. The mistake was a BIG mistake but that's just one of those things and it will happen to every team. I have to say I wasn't too impressed with the defence especially Pantsil. I think it's a bit early for him to be playing and i'd much prefer to see Freddi Stoor playing in that right back position. We looked good going forward but we just need to be a little more adventurous and just go for it. Couple of hard weeks ahead so lets just keep our fingers crossed!

I'm surprised we didn't play with a holding midfielder, Andreassen or Andranik. Especially without AJ available I expected RH to be playing a 4-5-1 with Davies and Gera cutting in. That would have given the defence some protection. Anyway, bring on Arsenal, they didn't exactly shine in their first game, I reckon this is the season we take them at the Cottage!

I thought Pantsil looked good. The midfield was terrible, Murphy and Bullard can't play with each other.

I thought Pantsil looked good too. He ran for 90 minutes, was-well in for every challenge, defended well, and was great going forward. All our attacking play was from his side. I thought Schwartzer had a good game too. He kept us into with a couple of his saves. Agree also that Bullard and Murphy were pretty much absent. Jimmy's set up the goal mind. We needed a holding midfielder. Woy left that wayyyy too late. Zamora should have been substituted earlier too - very ineffective.

orange - if they can't play together then is it curtains for Jimmy seeing as Murphy is our new captain?
Al Billy
Well they played together ok last season...
Mr. Ploppy
No, thats not the case Al Billy. I think Murphy can be on the bench, like Lee Clark was for us when he was captain. Zamora was harrased all game. Gardener had his hands all over him as did turner.

sad we didnt hold onto a result there on this opening day, its not all Konchy fault when our midfield not playing anywhere to the standard they sh'd hav n so as BZ. got to bounce back lads n hopefully with AJ set for debut he will provide the much needed pace n finishing touch to give us a lift. also try a Defensive Midfielder with great work rate as extra cover for our defence line against Arsenal. then against leicester let AJ n BZ play to combine n get used to each style of play. still think we sh'd get 1 or 2 backup in Centre Half just in case of injuries
genuch
