'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Niemi - Ferry to the Mersey?

It wasn`t too long ago that we ran an article whereby Antti Niemi`s agent intimated that five Premier League clubs were after the keeper`s signature.

Never in our wildest dreams did we suspect that one of them might be Liverpool!

It transpires that Rafa Benitez is looking for an experienced keeper to provide back-up for Pepe Reina.

After apparently being rejected by Maik Taylor (of Birmingham) all eyes are focussing on securing Antti as the target.

Whether Antti will be interested in playing second fiddle at this stage of his career remains to be seen but you`d struggle to find someone who`d try and persuade him it was not the right thing to do. Wouldn`t you?

I think he would rather play out the end of his career, not get a ringside seat at Anfield!
