Robben out for opening game!

Arjen Robben is set to miss the Group C opener against Italy on Monday after picking up a groin injury.

The 24-year-old Real Madrid winger sustained the problem in a closed training session this morning. 'In the first place, this is obviously a huge setback for Arjen himself,' said Marco van Basten. 'But also for the team this is a huge blow, as we have already lost Ryan Babel in that position. Together with the medical staff, Arjen will work very hard on his recovery and we really hope he can rejoin the team very quickly.'

Robben's form in the build-up to the finals had been highly promising. He produced an outstanding display in the 1-1 draw with Denmark, setting up a Ruud van Nistelrooy goal and scored his ninth goal in 33 internationals against Wales four days later.

With this news I think the starting XI against Italy will be...

Van Der Sar

Ooijer, Heitinga, Mathijsen, van Bronckhorst

Sneijder, Engelaar, Van Der Vaart

Kuyt, Van Nistelrooy, Afellay
