'If It's Football, It's Vital'

A Gong for Healy!

I can`t help thinking the world has gone slightly mad sometimes.

Having a cursory look around the internet tonight, I came across an article that made me chuckle.

Some people have got a little carried away by the goal scoring exploits of the Northern Ireland international during the European Championship qualifiers whereby he set a new scoring record, they want Healy to receive recognition, in the form of a gong, in the Queen`s Birthday Honours List later this month.

Much of the support is coming from those in the Irish province with the Killyleagh councillor, William Walker, leading the support when he remarks,

'David has brought all sections of our community together through sport and by his actions on the pitch has revived Northern Ireland football.'

'What a lot of people don't realise is the enormous amount of work he is involved in for various charities. Only recently he was back home highlighting the problems of child obesity."

'No one deserves such an award more than David Healy. The time is now right.'

Whilst we find the charitable exploits very honourable, we can`t help but think this is a big no-no, especially for a few years yet.

What next, a knighthood for Danny Murphy for scoring the goal that kept us up?

As you`ve gathered, I`m not really a fan of the honours system but I`d love to hear your views!

Silly silly silly. It was a great achievement but i think he should be happy with what he's already recieved

Shall i start the campaign for Murphy's knighthood? :-P I agree with howrad; healy will be happy with what he already has, plenty of other players are involved with charity. It's not something new!

I've alwys thought the best charity workers are those who don't let the secret out!
Putney
I'd quite like a knighthood for some players albeit if I can do the honours and lop their heads off! They get enough cash!

I'd love to slice Drogba's ears off with the sword see how much he rolls around after that!

Putney's right - the loudmouth charity workers are thoroughly annoying! Good luck to David but a knighthood is a little absurd. Knighthoods generally are a little absurd, in fact.
KingLegwinski
If that was Owen or Rooney they would have letters at the end of their name instantly, it's only beacuse he's a fulham player and after what Alfayed was saying there is no chanse

You can't be serious that David Healy should be honoured for scoring a couple of times for Northern Ireland?? Bloody bonkers! If he'd played years and years of top quality footie at the highest level, proved himself with 20 goals a season averages and played in the international tournaments coupled with huge amounts of charity work then maybe he could be honoured. This is a wind up surely?

"You can't be serious that David Healy should be honoured for scoring a couple of times for Northern Ireland??" yea sure 34 goals in 64 INTERNATIONAL games is just a couple, an average of 0.53 goals a game, 13 in the euro qualifiers which included a hat-trick against spain. if he was english theyd be throwing the red carpet out everywhere he goes.
