Could Fulham, on the back of our excellent win at Reading, register another home win over Liverpool?
The Anfield side travel to Craven Cottage this weekend desperate to stave off the challenge or rivals Everton for the fourth spot in the Premier League. However, they will be acutely aware that only seventy-two hours after the fixture at Craven Cottage they have to entertain our near neighbours, Chelsea, in a Champions League semi-final.
The scheduling of events mirrors almost perfectly those of last year whereby Rafa Benitez, much to the Sheffield United manager`s disgust (Neil Warnock), fielded a weakened team knowing that the Champions League was the only trophy his side had a chance of winning and that they had just scraped past Chelsea in a penalty shoot-out to reach the final.
There is every prospect that the same could happen this weekend a fact not lost on both Roy Hodgson and the ex-Liverpool player in our ranks, Danny Murphy.
With regards to the subject, Danny Murphy had this to say,
"I will speak to the boys this week and hopefully Stevie, Torres and a few of the others will stay at home. They have got Chelsea after our next match."
"But we have to stop worrying about other teams and worry about ourselves, and our performance has to be at this level if we are to give ourselves a chance."
"We should have won by more today (Saturday) and I don`t think they had many shots. I think we have to win three of our last four - if not, then two wins and two draws. We have to look forward to the Liverpool match and play with confidence."
Hopefully, the two players that seem to score the majority of Liverpool`s goals, Gerrard and Torres will be rested.
However, Hodgson has a word of caution for us all in case we all get carried away, pointing out,
"Even Liverpool`s reserve team doesn`t look to bad to me. There are one or two players in there that most managers would like to work with, so we might come down to earth with a bump."
Either way, I can`t wait; we`re on a roll are we not!
